I am a Stay-At-Home mom in Orange County, CA. The purpose of this blog is to share my outfits with the intent of being fashionable yet age-appropriate. I am a 40+ fashion blogger. I copy pieces I see on TV. I'm really, really good at finding excellent deals on quality brands. I diligently try to find the best deals and promo codes, so the prices shown on links are not necessarily the prices I paid. Say no to frumpy clothes.
December 14, 2014 episode - "Sam Morgan" of General Hospital wore this Free People 'Woodman' green and black plaid flannel shirt with contrasting navy and light blue floral print cuffs. Thanks once again to imasoapfan blog for the photo. It's a shame it's taken me a year to blog this! The contrasting cuffs made me want to hunt down this shirt like there was no tomorrow.
Last night my friends and I went to the Customer Rewards Night holiday party at Nordstrom in Mission Viejo. It was an exciting event for me as I had the amazing opportunity to meet my favorite fashion jewelry designer of Anna Beck jewelry, Becky Hosmer. Her trunk show was fabulous. Pieces usually only available at her boutique in Los Angeles and annabeck.com were available at Nordstrom for this event. Unfortunately, I forgot to wear my Anna Beck ring. I was so bummed, but I was so excited to purchase these beautiful silver earrings. I will wear them in a post very soon. My friend Shawn noticed Becky and I are wearing very similar shoes and definitely the same color!
These Nordstrom parties are super fun, and I enjoy them every year. Appetizers are passed around, free booze is served, a DJ plays music, and you earn 10 Nordstrom points per $1 spent to get you those Nordstrom Notes faster.
"Maxie Jones" of General Hospital wore this spearmint green cardigan on the November 11, 2015 episode. Thank you once again to the incredible imasoapfan blog for the photo below. I got this J. Crew cardigan on sale plus a great promo code from jcrew.com. I attempted to achieve Maxie's look by layering my own necklaces. I also tried leaving more buttons opened as Maxie does here, but I didn't like it as much on me.
Friday my family celebrated my dad's 80th birthday, and this is what I wore out to lunch to one of my favorite local restaurants.
This blouse was seen on "Helen Solloway" in the season 2 episode 6 episode of Showtime's "The Affair" shown on November 8. This blouse and earrings are the exact pieces "Hayden Barnes" wore on the October 15th episode of "General Hospital." As you can see in the photos provided by one of my favorite blogs, imasoapfan, Hayden's earrings have been shortened. I didn't want to shorten my earrings. I hope mine look okay not shortened. I would improve this outfit in three ways: 1. Do NOT match lipstick to the blouse. Choose a rose color instead. 2. Open the blouse one more button. 3. Roll the sleeves up higher. I should be looking at the lens instead of above at my husbsand. He insists he likes how these pictures turned out, but I am not fond of the way my eyes are looking up instead of at the camera lens. Ok, enough criticizing of this post. Let's get to the photos.
"Helen Solloway" wearing The Kooples crepe matte shirt on "The Affair" Season 2 Episode 6.
"Hayden Barnes" on "GH" wearing The Kooples crepe matte shirt. (Thank you to imasoapfan for the photo and for locating the shirt.)
"Hayden Barnes" on "GH" wearing House of Harlow Meteora earrings. (Thank you to imasoapfan for the photo.)
Dad's 80th Birthday Outfit/ Helen of The Affair & Hayden Barnes of GH "Copycat"
I should seriously consider changing the name of my blog to Copycat. I fall in love with many outfits on bloggers, actresses, mannequins, online store models and try to find the exact same pieces. This outfit is almost completely copied from a nordstrom.com online photo modeling a Halogen cashmere sweater and KUT From the Kloth cordouroy pants I purchased just about a year ago. I never would have thought of putting these pieces together on my own. The two shades of pink are very fun together, and the striped shirt balances the two colors. The stripes also seem to tie together the black in the animal print shoes. What I found most interesting about this outfit was the red stripe at the cuff. The red seems to tie the pinks all together. Red stitching on the shirt buttons I find fun, too. Sadly, I can't find any more of the Nexx brand at Nordstrom or anywhere else. Earlier this year Nordies had so much of the Nexx brand. I already had animal print flats so I hoped those would work. I was not interested in getting the animal slip-on sneakers anyway. The Halogen cashmere sweater is from last year, and the newly updated version is different. The new one has side slits and the v-neck is much deeper than last year's version. Nordstrom still carries these KUT From the Kloth cordouroy pants, but the light pink color has been discontinued. I'm thinking about getting the denim blue color.
Yep, it's been a while. I guess I have the same excuse.... no one around take my photo.... hate my poses... same old, same old excuses. I have so many outfits I am excited about.... I should get off my butt and blog them. My favorite blogger beverlylikehills is now back in OC and blogging, I must say her return has inspired me to blog again. This dress is my favorite right now. I can see wearing boots and tights as another option for day, and to dress up I can wear my red wine suede heels. I suppose a colorful tote would improve this outfit, but today I felt the monochromatic look was working. My colorful tote is too springy anyway. My family and I had a nice lunch out Sunday afternoon, and this is what I wore.
Diane von Furstenburg 'Malba' dress - this is my favorite dress this season. I waited and waited for this to go on sale. The cheetah/black print was featured on the House of DVF reality show in season one. I got it in blue, a Nordstrom Exclusive, and at a really good discount. I wore this last night on a date with my husband to see comic Louie Anderson at the Laguna Playhouse. We laughed our asses off through the entire show. A great night. My husband loved my dress. A plus.
Joie. My size is always consistent with this brand. The fit works every time, and the quality is amazing. I watch for promo codes and markdowns with Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Off 5th, and Last Call. This lightweight sweater I purchased at a steal at Rue La La. I also wanted to point out the jeans, these Tory Burch Classic Bootcut in Rinse are the best fitting mid-rise jeans I've ever worn. I was quite lucky to purchase them at a deep discount on Rue La La. UPDATE: I wrote to Rue La La and they kindly gave me the stock photos of the Joie sweater and TB jeans.
Back in February, my husband and I hosted our second Oscars Party. I discovered this rose gold sequins dress on actress Laura Wright, "Carly Corinthos" from "General Hospital," - the New Year's Eve party episode. I love how the white silver earrings complement the rose gold dress, I find this an unexpected pairing. Lucky for me, I located the exact dress with the help of the amazing blogger imasoapfan, and earrings I was able to find on my own, both purchased with promo codes - yeah! This dress is definitely my favorite I've ever worn. I hope to go to another fancy event soon so I can wear it again.
My lastest obsession is to copy outfits I see on TV. I'm already super excited about clothes, so when I'm wearing an exact piece I've seen an actress wear from a TV show I'm into - the excitement level about the piece I'm wearing, well, it just goes without saying.
This dress and jacket were seen on "Michaela" of "How To Get Away With Murder," Season 1, Episode 5. I had to work really hard to actually purchase these pieces. It took weeks. When I first discovered the dress and jacket - they were already sold out. I kept checking back frequently, and finally on Black Friday Week my sizes became available again and was able to purchase the dress and jacket with deep, deep markdowns and promo codes. I seriously lucked out on these. It was truly a miracle.
As seen on "Michaela" of "How To Get Away With Murder", Season 1 Episode 5: (photo credit: wornontv.net - thank you for the opportunity to purchase these amazing pieces!)
Today at my local Nordstrom a customer came over to me and asked me if I have a fashion blog. I was stunned. Thank you, Michela, for recognizing me from this blog! I am still amazed. I had this happen to me one other time, it was the first time I had met Style Underdog, who is now Beverly Like Hills. At the grocery store, she came up to me and asked if I was No More Frump! That was so cool.
Today's encounter with Michelamade me realize I should post. The thing is my husband is rarely home when the light is right, blah blah blah. I have my 9 year old taking outfit photos with my iPhone just about everytime I'm dressed up, and the photos aren't so great. So I just don't post them.
Today's outfit: I copied all of the clothing from outfit from a mannequinn at Nordstrom back in October. The mannequin did not provide the tights, shoes, handbag or earrings, so I had to think of those things on my own. I love this skirt because it's grey, not black. I wore tights today because it was cold and rainy. I tried black tights on first, but I think the grey looks more interesting than black.
Note: This bracelet (Cara Stone Cuff, Black Diamond/ Hematite) was on the mannequin in addition to the studded cuff, and I bought it. The two cuffs together looked incredible. Unfortunately the stone cuff kept flying off my wrist so I had to return it. I was so sad since it was my favorite part of the outfit. Instead, today I wore the kate spade bangle in silver, in hopes to bring in silver to complement the skirt as the stone cuff did so beautifully.
